Why the same song can get a different AI rating
By the Grumpy Music team · Updated September 22, 2026
You upload the same song twice and see 72/100 on one review and 74/100 on the next. What should you take from the difference? Start with the written feedback, not just the two numbers.
Why a song rating can change
An AI reviewer generates a fresh assessment of the track. It can place different emphasis on a hook, a performance or a production choice on another run. The selected persona and any context you provide also influence the perspective of the review.
A small change in score does not, on its own, prove that the song improved or that one review is more accurate. It is a reason to read what the reviewer noticed and compare the explanations.
What the three analysis passes do
Paid reviews run three independent analyses using the reviewer you selected. When all three succeed, their scores are compared and the middle-scoring review is selected. The passes do not switch between Grumpy A&R, the Producer and the Analyst.
Comparing the results helps reduce the influence of an unusually high or low assessment. It does not eliminate every bias or turn a subjective judgment into an objective fact. A review may still complete with fewer successful analyses if a pass fails.
How to read the score range
Where a score range is shown, it provides context about the spread of the analysis scores. A wider range means the assessments differed more. It is not a statistical confidence interval or a prediction of how every listener will rate your song.
Use the overall rating, category breakdown and written comments together. Our public example review shows how those parts sit alongside each other.
Compare the feedback before changing the song
Ask whether both reviews point to the same strengths or problems. If they do, that recurring observation is worth checking in your own listening. If they disagree, listen to the specific section and decide which comment fits your intention.
Keep the reviewer, track version and context consistent when comparing reviews. A new mix or a different persona is a different comparison. If a score changes dramatically on an identical upload with the same settings, investigate rather than assuming the difference is meaningful.
Keep the final decision yours
A song rating is a starting point. Use our listening checklist to make your own notes, and seek feedback from human listeners before making changes that alter the character of the track.
